Abstract
    The underwater broadband sound pressure field generated by a moving source often ex-hibit an interference structure, which is determined by the waveguide properties. It has been used for underwater inverse problems, including geoacoustic inversion and source localization. In this paper, a novel passive acoustic interferometry is proposed for sed-iment characterization by exploring the interference structure of the broadband sound pressure field. Salient features of the interference pattern, i.e., the slope and position of the striations, are extracted by image processing technique. Then the sensitivities of these features to environmental parameters, e.g., the striation position shift with respect to geoacoustic parameters in different frequency bands and ranges, are numerically studied. The coupled effects of geoacoustic parameters on the sensitivity are also discussed. Finally, a simple numerical study based on the Yellow Shark environmental model is used to demonstrate preliminary inversion results.
